I MUST GO BACK FOR MORE. So much color, so much tile, so much delicious food... beautiful people in beautiful spaces everywhere.
I'm not claiming to be a Mexico City Expert, but perhaps this info could give you a place to start when planning your own visit, which you should do right now. Gracias to all the friends who gave me their own Mexico City standouts when I planned our trip. Here's what I know so far, followed by some pictures. Enjoy it. But I assure you, this blog post doesn't do it justice. You really must go and see for yourself. I insist.
SLEEPING AROUND
We booked a room at La Casa Huset through Airbnb, and Walter was a kickass host with impeccable taste. The building was run like a boutique hotel, with a beautiful bar and restaurant in the courtyard, a yoga studio, barber shop, coffee shop and boutique. La Casa Huset was in a prime location, and is 100% cool, which I knew it would be because it is PINK.
Next time (yes, already planning a return), we will book a room at Hotel Condesa DF. Even if you don't stay at the hotel, at least go for a drink or a meal. If you don't do that, go to their website and look at the pictures because this place is GORGEOUS. https://www.condesadf.com
GETTING AROUND
Uber was our main mode of transportation, and yes, the traffic can be awful, which made us feel right at home.
You know what's cool? Riding a bike on Sunday morning through the city on 35 miles of closed roads. You know what's even cooler than that? Hopping off that bike for an outdoor Zumba class that is more dance party than workout. The class I saw was led by a hot team of instructors up on a big stage, and I'm pretty sure they might be Janet Jackson's backup dancers when they aren't Zumbaing.

GOOD TO KNOW
The altitude is no joke, so remember to guzzle water between your cocktails, and bring plenty of ibuprofin.
This city eats lunch at 3pm, and it seems reservations are only available for dinner. So get to where you're going by 2, and get on the list. We were there on a weekend, and there was always a wait (which was fine because it gave me ample time to drool over everyone's outfits). Offering to eat at the bar cuts down on waiting time if you are starving and crabby.
MUSEUMS
Mexico City is the city with the most museums in the whole wide world. Here's a link that lists them all.
If that list overwhelms the hell out of you, maybe just hit a couple biggies (these are both located in Chapultepec Park).
Museum of Modern Art
National Museum of Archeology
You can also duck into a variety galleries between meals. It's good for digestion?
DAYTRIPs
The Floating Gardens of Xochimilco. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xochimilco
Coyoacán -- This town is pretty. You can visit the Plaza, walk to the Frida Kahlo Museum (6 blocks), walk to the Trotsky Museum (10-12 blocks), visit the Market, shops, and bookstores. Also, there's a museum called El Museo de Culturas Populares. If they have a good exhibit, it's worth it -- located almost on the Plaza. http://museoculturaspopulares.gob.mx/info_visitante.php
SHOP
The women here were dripping with style. People in Mexico City dress up, but somehow manage to make it seem like they didn't try too hard. In my head, it was all sexy Latinas in corsets and stilettos. I was dead wrong. My plan for next time is to get over my shyness (and horrible Spanish grammar) and ask some of these women where they shop so I can copy everything they are doing, because boy does it work.
For folk art, there is a chain of Government-run stores called Fonart you might want to check out.
