Okay. A four-course date for under 50 bucks... and it was F-U-N. Emily and I started this outing at 5pm, and were in our Uber headed home at 9:30, which to me, was perfect, as my kids seem to always need things from me at 6am. You should copy. Here's how:
appetizer: Galleries in Historic China Town
It started with a trip to The Gregario Escalante Gallery for a show and launch event called This is a Limited Edition. We started at that gallery, and then checked out the other galleries (that I had no idea existed).
post-appetizer cocktail: general lee's bar
Seeing all that art made us thirsty, so we went to General Lee's, located at 475 Gin Ling Way, Los Angeles, CA 90012. This place is a Chinatown institution with a rich history dating back to 1878. If you get chatty with the bar manager, you will hear all about it. It does not disappoint.
main course: little jewel of new orleans
The bar manager at General Lee's sent us to this restaurant. All I have to say is that Emily and I are lovers of cajun food, and we both confessed that the blackened shrimp po boy we ate here was better than what we had in New Orleans. So wrong. The portions are massive. The half muffuletta could pretty much feed a family. The bread was perfectly toasted. The only downside to this gem is that they don't serve alcohol, but an employee told us that the owner is currently in the process of changing that. I'm pretty sure that if you had a bottle of wine in your purse that you busted out during your dinner, no one would "notice".
dessert; panda massage
While stuffing our faces, we couldn't help but notice the $20/hour foot massage signs across the street. So with full bellies, we ventured into this dark place called "Panda Massage & Foot Body", and decided that a foot massage is the best nightcap ever. The end.
