Meet Jaclyn.
So here she is. Not a stitch of makeup, bangs she cuts herself, and amazing full eyebrows... this girl couldn't be cooler if she tried. But of course what makes her cool is that she's not trying.
Jaclyn shows up for work in outfits that are spot on. When I compliment them, she matter-of-factly tells me that she got them at JetRag for a dollar. For those of you who know me, you realize that this is the way to my heart -- Great style that looks completely original, and costs next to nothing. That kinda shit makes me high.
She drives an old Volvo (that has been featured in a music video), has a harp at her house, and is from Missoula, Montana.
Since my 40th birthday, I have tried to embrace my age with confidence and acceptance. I believe that confidence is what keeps us forever sexy. But I'm not going to lie, Jaclyn makes me nostalgic for my 20s. Nostalgic in a way that makes me smile so hard and breaks my heart at the same time. I'm beyond grateful. It was FUN.
White Sands National Monument
Next on my to do list is this amazing place. Founded in 1936, this Northern Chihuahuan Desert in New Mexico has giant dunes of White Gypsum sand. And if you're Jaclyn, you roadtrip here with a gorgeous and talented director of photography, who takes stunning photos that your future children will likely have framed in their homes. Any why the hell not jump in the car and check this place out? From LA, it's just a simple 835 miles and/or twelve hours. I will do this at some point just to see my dog run free in these dunes. Or perhaps my children. Or maybe I will just lay down and remember those delicious ten years of being grown up and young at the same time.
Photos by Joseph Loeffler, and yes, that's him in the pictures.
