For Part 3 of the Field Trips for Bored Kids series, we are exploring Madang Plaza Shopping Mall in Koreatown. Once again, it's also fun for the parents, and won't break the bank. It is located at 621 South Western Ave at Wilshire Blvd, across from The Wiltern. See just a few highlights of this plaza below:
Chocolate Chair
This place is known for it's liquid nitrogen ice cream and shakes. My daughter Eleanor and her BFF Milla got "Dragon's Breath", which tasted like giant Trix cereal to me, especially when dipped in the chocolate sauce, which was basically chocolate milk. But who cares what it tastes like, because when you eat it, you can make "smoke" come out of your nose and mouth like a dragon.
Daiso Japan
Think 99 Cents Only store, but everything is cute. Instead of 99 cents, most things cost $1.50, unless otherwise marked. This place is filled with stuff you don't need, but it's too fun to pass up. And I guarantee you will learn about a product that you didn't know existed. For me, this product was Chair Socks. I've included just one photo of said socks, but there was a huge selection. I had no idea...
Somi Somi
You're not up for liquid nitrogen? No problem, because you can get Taiyaki Ice Cream. This Japanese treat is cold soft-serve in a hot fish-shaped waffle cone. It comes with toppings and fillings, and has a useful chart to follow if you are clueless like me. If you feel intimidated by the possible mess of hot cone/cold ice cream, you can do a cup, which is boring, but I get it.
On our way out, we were lucky enough to cross paths with this gorgeous family. What a great note to leave on...
