British artist Simon Birch is killing it. The 14th Factory is his documentary film in the making. The set is an empty warehouse, where he collaborated with sixteen artists to create 14 interlinked spaces of video, installation, sculpture, paintings and performances. I found those 14 spaces to be amazing. His film follows the viewer on the journey through the experience of his art factory. There's something special about physically being in the space where the artists created their work. There's a joy in not knowing what to expect in the next room. I found it exciting to be a part of his project. While I couldn't quite put my finger on my favorite part, I did enjoy hearing from the docent/guard about patrons getting naked or showing up in astronaut suits for the Space Odyssey room pictured above. I was also in awe of Hong Kong artist Movana Chen's ongoing project of knitting "magazine clothes" from shredded books and magazines. What's even cooler than her beautiful art is the fact that you can go and knit with her in the space!
I love art beyond words, which may explain why writing about art is not my forte. The above text was informed by writings at www.the14thfactory.com
